Jordan Peterson is truly a “shining light on a hill” for the modern age. The areas in which his work lacks, are the appraisal of technology & perhaps an over-burdened, disapproving, parochial conservatism that threatens to detract from the radicalist potential of some of his religious, spiritual & philosophical ideas.
As a psychiatric survivor myself, Jordan Peterson’s terrible treatment at the hands of the medical, “psychiatric” establishment was entirely foreseeable, & demonstrates the genuine naivety & earnestness of his views on that subject (In 12 Rules For Life, he lamentably opines that the closing of the old Victorian Style Asylums was a BAD thing, resulting, in his opinion, in more detrimental “people on the street”) .
For anyone who is a reader of his work, I hope that this will be a stark lesson, between the pages, to feel towards Western “Mental Health” Medicine a most prudent, tacit contempt, & loathing… for its odious, superficial “scientific” veneer.
This same naivety, is present in Dr. Peterson’s medical-esque, carping & shameful concern for the cleanliness of the bedroom.
We see a deeply fusty conservatism coming through, which, while potentially charming, is also potentially very dangerous, in its mannerisms of resistance, suspicion & hostility towards the new that threaten to create a cantankerous group of disciples, united only by their dislike of what seems strange to them, in their own enormously parochial, limited, isolated backgrounds;
— the typical mentality of the terminally ignorant, prejudiced & arrogant.
Like most thinkers on the moderate Right, JBP glosses over, or fails to confront the enormity of the societal changes taking place, especially in relation to the issue of technology & inevitable globalism. His main focus is on resisting the current tide of mendacious, dangerously aggressive ideologies of the Left. In addressing this topic, he overlooks many of the underling issues, but critique of the overt “philosophies” & their moral pestilence is surely quite sound.
(A more thorough critique however would address the physiological motivations, ala Nietzsche, for their cruel total war upon justice & civilized humaneness , & also the role in which their apparent decadence plays in the over-all functioning of the socio-biological organism, ala Howard Bloom.. or in religious terms, in “God’s plan”. For instance, he fails to properly consider the role of trans-genderism in coming to terms with the over-population of the planet)
It is extremely curious, given his clear appreciation of the work of Martin Heidegger, that Jordan Peterson has not yet made more of an issue of the central problem of Technology, as we see in the work of the likes of Mitchel Heisman or Yuval Noah Harrari.
It is necessary to press the urgency of this case, & call for a world-wide movement of explicit resistance to further technological control of Society. While, in relation to matters of the spirit, it is called-for to resist the weary, worried, disapproving “fatherly” conservatism, which strikes one more of the mentality of an uninitiated, B.C. Rabbi, & employ a strategy based more on true love, wonder, & acceptance & courage;
— the true attitude of philosophy or of Jesus. An attitude suitable for today’s global-directed, inter-woven, harmonizing & synthesizing cultural & political trajectory, that is now inevitable, & can merely be austistically, bad-temperedly & potentially deadly over-compartmentalized by any small-minded chauvinistic resistance.
